Biography

TECHNICAL SERGEANT LLOYD Z. SWEDE

Technical Sergeant Lloyd Z. Swede is an Officer Accessions Instructor, Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps, Detachment 280, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas. He instructs and mentors cadets preparing to commission as officers in the United States Air Force and Space Force. Sergeant Swede teaches Aerospace Studies courses and leadership laboratories, guiding cadets in academic, professional, and character development. He also oversees personnel actions, cadet pay and scholarships, medical and security clearances, and administrative management for the detachment.

Sergeant Swede entered the Air Force in November 2007 and began his career as an Air Traffic Controller, graduating from the Air Traffic Control Apprentice Course at Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi, in May 2008. He served as an apprentice controller and assistant unit deployment manager at Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri, before retraining as a Pavements and Construction Equipment Operator, graduating from technical training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, in September 2010. Over his 18 years of active-duty service, he has served in multiple civil engineering assignments supporting mission sustainment and base operations across the Air Force. His experience includes airfield and roadway construction, heavy equipment operations, and asset management. Prior to his current position, Sergeant Swede was the Requirements and Optimizations NCOIC, 11th Civil Engineer Squadron, Joint Base Anacostia–Bolling, Washington, D.C. 

Sergeant Swede has deployed in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM, OPERATION ENDURING SENTINEL and OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE, providing essential airfield and base recovery capabilities in combat environments. His leadership and technical proficiency directly enabled sustained airpower generation and joint mission success under demanding conditions.
